Blue speaker icon symbolizing sound or volume.This time of year in the Autumn we celebrate theDay of the Dead2013especially in Mexico and by Latin Americans in the US. It is also know as All Souls Day on November 1 and the Catholic holiday All Saints Day on November 2.
TheDay of the Deadis a time for family and friends to come together in prayer and remembrance of loved ones who have died. We can build altars or shrines in our homes to celebrate and honor our dead.
During theDay of the Deadwe have the opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the cycle of death as an essential part of the cycle of life where one does not exist without the other.

Conscious Intention

The Celts believed that withconsciousintentionthis was the most powerful time to look into the future and access other worlds more easily. It was a time to go within and seek guidance from our ancestors for the upcoming year.
The Ancient Celts believed that this time of High Magic was best used withconsciousintentionsince the veils between the world of the livingand the world of the dead are thinnest.
This time of High Magic was for celebrating death and rebirth, endings and beginnings and what was yet to come. The pattern for the coming year was set throughconsciousintentionthrough ceremonial celebration.

Honoring Our Dead Loved Ones

TheDay of the Deadfor me is abouthonoring our dead loved oneson the other side. Setting up pictures of my loved ones on an altar with lit candles is a simple way for me to acknowledge them all.
During this celebration of theDay of the DeadI amhonoring my dead loved onesby remembering the gifts that each one has given to me in my life. For example my mom’s gift to me was knowing the importance of sharing loving kindness with others and my friend Deb’s gift was the importance of expressing our creativity.
Making a conscious effort to incorporate the many gifts that each loved one gave me is the most powerful way ofhonoring my dead loved ones.
